Backstop is meant for Tier-One agents in a worst-case scenario during which, for whatever reason, they have to disappear. In the early version of the Backstop technology, the Backstop procedure took place at a Citadel facility in Mexico City. While sedated, an agent would have their corneas and the ridges of their fingerprints reshaped to help them hide. Lastly, they would be given a new alias. Later, the Backstop technology evolved into a chip that would be implanted behind an agent’s ear and could be activated remotely.
